The City of Fontana Community Services Department remains committed to ensuring that our community members have core services and resources to maintain healthy lives, grow meaningful relationships and continue to have extraordinary experiences.


Although the Department programs postponement and facilities closures remain in place due to State and County Covid-19 guidance, the Community Services Department is here to serve the community. Staff is available to help you and has been hard at work creating engaging at-home programs as well as support resources to enrich community lives during this time.  The Community Services Department hopes to return to regular programming and activities and continues to monitor the State of California guidelines. In the interim, the Department has developed the Virtual Recreation Center to allow the community to stay active, stay connected and stay informed on resources, services, and new and upcoming virtual activities.


Virtual Recreation Center

The Virtual Recreation Center brings programs and resources to the community in efforts to make it easier for you to prioritize your health and well-being. Visit the Community Services Department’s Virtual Recreation Center at to choose from a variety of topics for all ages and abilities from educational, sports, fitness, sports, special needs, brain exercises, nature, mental health resources and arts and crafts. The Virtual Recreation Center is continuously updated with new fun-at-home activities as well as resources to support the Fontana Community, it is a one stop shop to stay active, connected, and informed. 


Healthy Fontana Programming

Healthy Fontana continues to be an integral part of the City’s after-school program, known as FELP.  This year, Healthy Fontana is focusing on Self-Care, where exercise, nutrition, and well-being are important in maintaining a healthy lifestyle. 


Fontana Walks! is closing in on 9.5 Billion Steps.  This program is designed to get everyone walking at least 5,000 steps daily, and gradually working yourself up to the recommended 10,000 steps daily.

This free and impact free exercise is just one-way people can get their daily exercise.  Not to mention if you sign up and log your steps with Healthy Fontana you may receive prizes and incentives.

Recreation Centers

COVID-19 Testing continues to take place at the Jessie Turner Center and Jack Bulik Center assisting San Bernardino County in curving numbers in the right direction.  It is important to continue to get tested, to help reduce the spread of the virus and to help San Bernardino reach a lower tier and open faster.  To schedule your test please visit  Jessie Turner Center is open Monday-Friday, 9am-6pm and Jack Bulik is open from 7am-7pm Monday-Friday. 


Adult 55+ Programming & Services

Since the COVID-19 emergency was declared, City of Fontana Senior Programming has continued to provide the Nutrition Program, Transportation Services, and Information & Referral to its senior membership. 


The Nutrition Program has prepared and delivered over 8,400 meals in February, an average of 2,100 meals a week.  The Nutrition Program continues to contactless delivery to seniors’ doors. 


The Transportation Program has continued their service to its membership to essential destinations including doctor's appointments and grocery stores.  It is averaging 56 one-way trips per week and 11 one-way trips per day Monday - Friday.


Another key component to our senior programming is Information & Referral.  We have reached out to all 1,300+ of the senior membership at the Fontana Community Senior Center and have our phone lines open to assist the senior community in finding resources and delivering information.  In total City staff at the senior center have made over 11,000 calls to the senior membership, averaging 231 phone calls per week.


In addition to the above, the City is working with the County to coordinate two vaccine events in the months of March and April 2021 in efforts to support the local senior population.


Above the Limits

The City of Fontana Community Services Department’s comprehensive Special Needs Program, Above the Limits (ATL) includes social-recreational, resource and referral, and inclusion support provided to the Fontana community. The program provides opportunities to connect and catch up with Above the Limits members through virtual programming, ATL Poppin-In. Members will have the opportunity to catch up with their friends and have weekly fun. Members can enjoy a 30-minute activity and hear from one of our guest speakers from the comfort of their own home.  Activities will vary each week but will include crafts, games, magic, and more! Members can register and receive more information by sending an email to [email protected]  In the month of February, 46 participants joined the activities. 


Recreation Classes

The Community Services Department encourages participation from our community in recreation classes. Recreation classes offer a great mix of fun and educational opportunities for all ages and abilities including art classes, adult Zumba sessions, martial arts, ballet, educational opportunities and more.  With one easy step, available online from your computer, tablet, or smartphone, you will be enrolled in a class of your choice. Fontana Arts

The City of Fontana invites community members to get creative virtual style, with Fontana Arts’ At Home Edition. There is something for everyone in this line up with Little Tykes Paint Nights, Kid’s Art Paint Night, Family Paint Night, Imagination Studio, and DIY Make & Create. All programs will be hosted and made available through Google Meets. The Community Services Department looks forward to serving our community with these creative and fun programs. During the month of February, Fontana Arts provided six (6) art opportunities with 264 points of contact.


Fontana Expanded Learning Program

The Fontana Expanded Learning Program (FELP), in partnership between the City of Fontana and Fontana Unified School District (FUSD) provides the program to participants in kindergarten through eighth grade across (28) elementary and five (5) middle school sites serving a total of 14,931 points of contact in the month of February.  The program’s goal is to provide quality educational, recreational, and cultural programs by fostering the social, physical, intellectual, and emotional development of the youth that we serve. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the after-school programming has been adjusted to align with State, County, and School Districts guidelines. This year’s program is being offered virtually to support FUSD Distance Learning per the current State of California order.  The virtual program includes the following core components:

•           Homework Support

•           Healthy and Wellness Education

•           STEAM Activities (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math)

•           Leading Education Art Program Lessons (LEAP)

•           Physical Activities

In addition to the above program components, during this unique time, FELP has also provided the following support.

•           School/Principal/Teacher support services

•           Participant/Family one on one support services

•           English Learner support

•           Foster Youth and McKinney Vento support

•           FUSD Grab & Go Meal distribution support

The Fontana After School Program is also assisting FUSD with staff support at the essential free Grab & Go Meals Program to youth ages 18 & under.  The program has served 1,635,844 meals to 58,423 community youth. For more information on the free Grab & Go Meals visit for summer program details.


Parks and Fields

City parks, trails and open spaces have always served as places for the community to find respite, physical fitness and peace and restoration. The City is committed to maintaining these spaces to keep them safe and benefit the community. The City’s 40+ parks and fields continue to be checked daily through the Department’s Park Monitor Program, Sunday – Saturday from 10:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. The Park Monitors continue to monitor the 180+ Field Permits and over 2600 hours of field use and general park use.


Currently, State and County guidance is in transition relating to field use and permitting.


Fontana Park Aquatic Center

The Fontana Park Aquatic Center (FPAC) remains popular providing Lap Swim, Water Walking, Water Polo practices as well as Swim Club practices. The City is committed to maintaining these aquatic opportunities to benefit the community.


Community Communications

Connect with the Community Services Department through the City’s website at, email/text notifications, KFON TV (on Spectrum Cable channel 33, Frontier Communications channel 38, AT&T U-verse channel 99 and online at and on Social Media sites: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Nextdoor and on YouTube to stay up to date on the latest announcements, recourses, and services.  The City is committed to deliver quality communications especially during the closure to keep Fontana residents up to date on the latest news and information including KFON’s coverage of public meetings and rebroadcasts, press conferences, City Government access channel maintenance and channel operation 24 hours a day, seven days a week.  During the closure, the Department has distributed a total of 100+ digital communications and 840 hours of station community information updates community wide to 215,000+ residents.
